In this view, looking northwest, the unpaved glider strip can be seen above the paved runway, 8-26. Glider operations are going on with a yellow Piper Cub tow plane getting ready to tow the light brown glider aloft. Behind them is a light yellow glider in position for its tow, and a yellow tow plane ready to position in front of it after the other glider is towed off the runway.
It appears that the "light brown" aircraft may have been red, but the coloration in slides has faded between 1981, when the picture was taken, and November 2015 when it was digitally scanned.

The unpaved glider strip is between runway 8-26 and the line of gliders, running left and right, at the center.

In this view to the east, to the left of runway 8-26, is the unpaved glider strip and the line of gliders next to the road. Each Spring, glider enthusiasts would carry buckets along the glider strip and collect rocks that would appear during the winter. Eventually, the glider strip was paved. Aircraft to the left of the glider strip are mostly gliders and a few tow planes.

At the upper center is "The Diagonal", a highway that runs from Boulder to Longmont, Colorado, to the right of the large lake near the center of the picture. Along that highway are high-tech company facilities including IBM and Lockheed.
