Douglas C-47 (DC-3) at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, August 1987
C-47 was the military designation for this plane. DC-3 was the civilian designation. Built by Douglas Aircraft, the plane was an important, capable, and easy-to-fly aircraft used extensively as a passenger and cargo plane during the 1940s in the U.S. and, for many years later, in third-world countries.
