This view is to the southwest toward the foothills. The traditional landing direction is to the east to avoid the city of Boulder unless surface winds from the west are very strong. The white plane in the background is on short final for runway 8 which is paved.

This view is southwest, across Boulder Airport, with the flatirons and foothills in the background. The flatirons are large slabs of nearly vertical rock. Note the rear tail strut on the Blanik which lowers with the landing gear. The landing gear doesn't retract fully. The white plane in the background has touched down on runway 8.

The Blanik is tied down and the canopy covered, apparently due to worsening weather as indicated by the clouds. The nose of Dave Barth's red Datsun 240Z can be seen behind the white storage van at the right.
