On May 21, 1927, the aviator Charles A. Lindbergh landed his Spirit of St. Louis near Paris, completing the first solo airplane flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Lindbergh was just 25 years old when he completed the trip. This is a replica built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that flight.
This replica was built by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Foundation. It is believed to be a faithful replica except for a few differences including a windscreen which the original did not have because a gas tank was located in front of the pilot. Lindbergh had a periscope which he could raise to see forward.
