Packards for 1946 and 1947 were virtually identical except for model numbers. Packard decided on the 1941 Clipper design
by Dutch Darrin for all post war models. The Senior Series pre-war model dies were sold to the Soviet Union at the
request of the US Government.
The 1941 Clipper design had to suffice until a new design could be done for the 1948 models. Packard suffered with a
lack of steel supplies in 1946 causing the company to fall short of projected sales of 200,000 units. Packard
production for 1946 and 1947 was only 80,000 units, far short of the goal.
