1890 Ordinary Bicycle, Rudge of England

This bicycle, built by Rudge of England, was called an "ordinary." Other names included "penny farthing," "standard," and "high wheeler." Note the stirrup on the handlebar. The bicycle has a mounting step on the frame, above the rear wheel, adjustable steel spokes, a metal frame, a front brake, wooden pedals, and a solid rubber tire with a wire running through a hole inside of it. The diameter of the large wheel is 54 inches.

The exhibit number is 143.
