Elwood Haynes parted business activities with the Apperson Brothers in 1901. Haynes continued to build quality automobiles until 1925 when the company began to suffer financial troubles. He died in 1925.

The Apperson Brothers continued making automobiles from 1902 until 1926. Their most famous car was the Apperson "Jackrabbit" which had a top speed of 75 miles per hour in 1907.

The 1916 Haynes shown here is a Model 34, a four-seater, clover leaf design body, six-cylinder engine, on a 121 inch wheelbase. The Haynes uses a standard gearshift and has three speeds forward and one in reverse. It has 34 x 4 inch tires. It sold for $1,385.

This particular car was delivered new to Swisher, Iowa, and has always been in northern Johnson or Linn, Iowa, counties.

The seating arrangement is most unusual as passengers have to walk between the front seats to get to the back seat. Haynes also offered a 12-cylinder car in 1916 with 5 more horsepower.
