The Hupp Motor Car Company was formed in 1908 by Robert and Louis Hupp in Detroit, Michigan. Robert Hupp had worked for
Olds and Ford before he went into business with his brother. They produced a two-passenger roadster by 1909. the last
Hupmobile was built in 1940 after years of economic ups and downs.
Initially, the car was solidly designed and met with success. It became known nationwide because it was reliable and
priced reasonably.
By 1922 they used treaded cord tires as well as a driver's side window wiper. It has 33 x 4 1/2 inch tires. Hupmobiles
were popular in the U.S. and sold abroad as well.
The museum's Hupmobile has a 115 inch wheelbase and is painted blue with black fenders. It is in restored condition.
1924 was the last year Hupp produced only a four-cylinder model. In 1925 they added eight-cylinder models. Hupmobiles
continued to be produced until 1940. The museum's Hupmobile would have cost $1,175 when new.
