In 1901 a fire destroyed the newly-formed Olds Motor Works facility in Detroit, Michigan, burning every car except for one curved-dash prototype vehicle. However, the company recovered and production of the curved dash proceeded successfully. In 1908 William C. Durant bought Olds Motor Works and added the company to his General Motors Company.

By 1937 Oldsmobiles were completely restyled from the previous models. The cars used Fisher bodies. This was the first year for all-steel bodies. This Opera Coupe has a six-cylinder engine, a three-speed manual transmission, and two doors.

This model has an unusual and expensive option: a car radio with an externally mounted antenna. The tire size is 6.50 x 16 inches.

This Opera Coupe is unique in that the back seats face each other instead of facing forward. The original price for this car is estimated at $810.
