Reduce Global Warming: Eliminate Organic Foods
compiled by David Barth, June 16, 2008
From Wired, June 2008, page 160.
Cows that eat organic feed produce 8 percent less milk than those fed conventional food, they generate 16 percent
more greenhouse gasses through methane emissions, and beef steers raised on organic food take longer to achieve
slaughter weight according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. Organic fertilizers deliver lower yields
than conventional fertilizers, so those crops require more land per unit of harvest.
Over its lifetime, an organic chicken generates 45 percent more greenhouse gas than a chicken raised on non-organic,
conventional feed.
