Lakewood Historical Society Newsletter Article Authors

Courtesy The Lakewood Historical Society.
Edited by David Barth, beginning 15 March 2014.

It is the articles that have made the Lakewood Historical Society Newsletters/Journals so rich in the history of Lakewood. The authors are recognized here for their valuable contributions that have helped make the Society a success. (The name "Newsletter" was changed to "Journal" in 2011.)

Originally, there were three tables of authors, sorted by year and month of the newsletter, by the author's last name, and by the subject of each article. However, because of the challenge of keeping all three tables synchronized and the limited interest in the information, I elected to provide only one table, sorted by the YEAR of the newsletter; the QUARTER as indicated by the sort code (X) in the column at the far right; and the author's LAST NAME.

If needed, the table in the web page can be highlighted, copied, and pasted into an MS Excel spreadsheet. Then, it can be sorted in the desired sequence.

In relation to the calendar year, publications are named "Winter," "Spring," "Summer," and "Fall." The "X" code in the right column assigns a letter code to each quarter to maintain the correct sequence because simpily sorting on the QUARTER results this alphabetical sequence within a given YEAR:
  • Spring
  • Summer
  • Fall
  • Winter

Sorting the quarters by the code instead of the name of the quarter puts the table into proper sequence:

QUARTER SORTING PHILOSOPHY
SORT CODEQUARTER
AWinter
BSpring
CSummer
DFall

Special issues are given a sort code of "A," regardless of the quarter they were actually published.

Some newsletters are missing from the table, either because they have been lost or were never published.

Originally, only those articles with bylines had the author listed in these tables. However, Marian Metsopoulos, editor of the Newsletter from its beginning in 1994, through 2014, wrote most of the non-byline articles, without listing her name as author. As of the Summer 2014 issue, her name was added to the author's list.

The actual newsletters have been scanned and are available in this website near the bottom of www.lakewoodcohistory.com.

In 2014 Marian announced that the winter quarter of 2015 would be her last issue as publisher. She has been a powerful driving force for the Society, and has very big shoes to fill.
