Abstract of Pictures in the book "Early Lakewood" by Robert and Kristin Autobee

Courtesy The Lakewood Historical Society, Inc.; the Lakewood Heritage Center; Robert and Kristin Autobee; Patricia Wilcox and the contributors listed in the book Lakewood-Colorado, an Illustrated Biography.
Collected and edited by David Barth, May & June 2014.

This abstract of pictures resides in three separate tables that draw on the following sources:
  • The Book, "Early Lakewood", was authored by Robert and Kristen Autobee. All pictures in the book are listed in this table, below.
  • The Lakewood Heritage Center collection of photographs was provided in May 2014 and consisted of about 1/3 of all photographs held by the Heritage Center, according to the curator. That abstract is in a separate table, not this one. As additional photograph descriptions become available, the plan is to add them to the abstract table.
  • The Book, "Lakewood-Colorado, an Illustrated Biography", edited by Patricia Wilcox, 1994, was written for the 25th Anniversary of the City of Lakewood. All pictures in the book are listed in a separate abstract, not this one.

NOTES:
  • 1. The column labeled "ORIG #" is the original sequence of the abstract entries in each of the tables. This allows a researcher to revert to the original sequence after sorting the tables, if desired. A table must be copied from this web page into a spreadsheet in order to sort it. Before sorting a table in MS Excel, the entire table must be selected (highlighted) to maintain table integrity.

Any two or all three tables can be combined into one table for sorting. Each table has a different "ORIG #" sequence of numbers so that there will be no duplicate sequence numbers. Discrete table numbering also allows a table to be extracted from the other tables, if desired.

  • 2. The column labeled "DESCRIPTION" contains a brief description of the picture.

  • 3. The column labeled "CATEGORY" is a sort field shows the category for the picture and specific information. For example, a photograph showing ["Tuberculosis patients at the Jewish Consumptive Relief Society (JCRS), assembled for daily exercises."] could have a category of "People" followed by "JCRS". This means that if the table were sorted on this field, all references to "People: JCRS" would be grouped together. At this point, the researcher could read the detailed description of each photograph, choose which one(s) are desired, and then, using the information in the "SOURCE" column, request that the photo be retrieved or provided.

Note that these abstracts are for informational and research purposes only and do not guarantee that any of the pictures will be available. In addition, many photographs are copyrighted and all copyright laws should be followed when reproducing a photograph.

  • 4. The column labeled "YEAR" is the year the photograph was taken, if known. It does not indicate the year an event in the picture occurred. That information should be in the Description.

  • 5. The column labeled "SOURCE" tells where the picture was obtained.

  • 6. The column labeled "X", for location, has:
    • "E" for photographs in the Book, "Early Lakewood" by Robert and Kristen Autobee. See the abstract for that book.
    • "L" for photographs in the Lakewood Heritage Center collection. See the abstract table for those pictures.
    • "B" for for photographs in the Book, "Lakewood-Colorado, an Illustrated Biography" edited by Patricia Wilcox, 1994. This abstract is shown, below.

  • 7. The column labeled "PAGE OR ID" shows the page number where the picture can be found in the book or, in the case of the picture list provided by the Lakewood Heritage Center, it is the call number or reference number used to locate the picture.

All errors and omissions in these abstracts are mine and do not reflect on the authors, their works, or the repositories. I will attempt to make additions and corrections as they are brought to my attention.
