Requirements for ICs used in Civilian Space Projects

Edited by David Barth, 7 December 2008

from page 76 of the September 29, 2008 issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology, by David Hughes.

Some requirements for ICs used in Civilian Space Projects at the time of this writing are as follows:

  • Civilian ICs used in space need radiation-hardened ICs to protect them from the constant bombardment of naturally occurring radiation from the sun and beyond.
  • Civilian ICs need to be able to withstand the intense vibration and g forces produced by the launch vehicle.
