The number of foundries that manufacturer military-grade, radiation-hardened (rad-hard) ICs at the time of
this writing are as follows:
- Mid-1980s: the U.S. military used ten foundries.
- 1990s: the number of foundries was five.
- 2000s: the number of foundries was down to two.
