Photo and Other Computer Tools
Sharing Photos by email
Sharing photos with friends and family by email can cause frustration because the pictures have such a large file size
that they overwhelm many e-mail servers and take dial-up users a long time to download. What you can do, is to
create a smaller version of the picture to send via e-mail.
If you are using Windows XP, there is a fairly easy way to do this.
- Open your "My Pictures" folder by right-clicking on "Start", clicking "Explore", and then scrolling the left
column of folders until you find the "My Pictures" folder. If the "My Pictures" folder is be within another folder,
you will need to expand that folder by clicking the plus (+) sign to the left of it to view the folders
within it.
- After you have opened your picture folder so that the list of photos appears in the right column,
find the picture you want to send by email (it usually has ".jpg" after the name of the picture). Right click on
the photo name, click "Send To", and then click on "Mail Recipient".
- If you want to send more than one picture, you can highlight a group of pictures by dragging with your
mouse, or click on the first picture, hold down your shift key and then click on the last picture.
- A small window will appear that gives you the option to make your picture smaller, or keep the original
size. Just choose "Make all my pictures smaller" and then click "OK".
- This will open up an e-mail message with your smaller picture already attached. All you have to do
is fill out the rest of the email and send it.
- Another way to reduce the size of pictures being sent is to use a program that reduces the picture without
losing it's quality. An example is Infranview that can be downloaded from www.infranview.com. Download that program,
change the size of your picture, and then use your email program's "Attach" feature to send your picture with your
email.
